FAQs
The Japanese ED visa program is a 15-month course for beginners who want to learn Japanese in Thailand with the potential view of working or living in Japan in the future. It begins with an 10-month beginner stage, followed by a 5-month intermediate stage, with 9 hours of weekly classes. The program is structured to help you progress steadily through the JLPT levels, from N5 to N3, giving you the skills and confidence to move forward.
Only 3 times over 15 months — significantly fewer than our English or Thai courses which require 5-7 Immigration visits over the same duration.
Most ED visa students must visit Immigration every 90 days (every 3 months). Our Japanese course structure gives you 5-month extensions, meaning fewer trips, less time off work, and less bureaucratic stress. We handle all paperwork for each visit and provide full support throughout your 15-month program.
Yes, under the new rules effective November 13, 2025, you can extend your visa exemption twice per calendar year:
– First extension: 30 days
– Second extension: 7 days (not 30 days)
However, 7 days is not enough time to process an ED visa from within Thailand (you need around 45 days). If you’re on your second extension and want to stay in Thailand long-term, you will need to leave Thailand and apply for an ED visa at a Thai embassy abroad. GEOS can help you with this process, including providing all necessary MOE approval letters and supporting documents.
Important: These are calendar year limits. Once you’ve used both extensions, you cannot extend again until the next calendar year, regardless of how many times you enter Thailand.
Yes. Thailand’s Immigration Bureau announced on November 12, 2025 that immigration officers can deny entry after 2 visa runs without justification. ED visa eliminates this risk by providing legal long-term stay (12-15 months) with 90-day extensions at Chaeng Watthana Immigration.
GEOS has maintained MOE recognition for 20+ years with a 100% approval rate for complete applications. We accompany you through the entire process, from acceptance letter to your first immigration extension. Start for as low as 22,000 THB with our Thai language course and pay-per-term option.
The 15-month Japanese ED visa course is 55,000 THB. This includes 9 hours of weekly lessons, all learning materials, and immigration and visa support. Our staff will handle all visa application paperwork, accompany you to immigration appointments, and provide translation assistance with officials.
Yes, you can. We offer flexible learning plans for students who don’t want to commit to the full course payment. The first term payment is 28,500 THB. Please contact our staff for detailed payment options.
30-45 days for the complete process from enrollment to receiving your ED visa. This includes Ministry of Education approval (1-2 weeks), document preparation, and two immigration visits at Chaeng Watthana. Students who need criminal record checks should allow 50-60 days.
The program runs for 15 months and is divided into three modules: Beginner, Elementary, and Intermediate Japanese. The first 10 months cover the Beginner and Elementary modules, giving you a strong foundation in Hiragana, Katakana, grammar, and practical conversation. After this stage, students must briefly leave Thailand to renew their visa before continuing with the 5-month Intermediate module, which focuses on advanced grammar, kanji, natural conversation, and cultural understanding. Each module requires 9 hours of weekly classes. GEOS provides full support with all paperwork for the visa transition, while preparing you for the JLPT from N5 to N3—ideal if you plan to work or live in Japan in the future.
You can begin your Japanese classes as soon as you complete the payment—no need to wait for your ED visa processing. Start learning while we handle your visa paperwork!

For the Japanese language course, you need to study 9 hours per week. This requirement
ensures you maintain a valid ED visa status while making steady progress in your

After completing the 10-month foundation course, students must leave Thailand briefly to apply for their advanced course visa. GEOS will prepare all necessary documentation and guide you through this process to ensure a smooth transition to the 5-month advanced course.
All Japanese language classes are conducted in person at our school in accordance with Ministry of Education requirements. This gives you the best learning experience through face-to-face interaction with teachers and fellow students.
